There are all kinds of people who are atheists from all walks of life. The believe in a wide variety of things and come from many backgrounds. They live all over he world. The one thing they have in common is that they don't believe in god, mainly because nobody has yet demonstrated that a god exists through independently verifiable evidence.

Atheism isn't some religion, or organized group, or belief system. It's just disbelief in god or gods. If you wanted to become an atheist you could do so right now by simply not believing in god. So, the next time someone asks you what atheism is all about, now you know what to tell them.
